Mission Australia
In August 2023, we announced a ground-breaking, three-year partnership with Mission Australia, to improve the financial wellbeing of Australians living in community housing through practical energy efficiency initiatives.
Together, we've also expanded our impact beyond energy efficiency by introducing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Navigator role, helping connect First Nations peoples with housing, income, health, and community services. Following the success of the pilot, the role is now a permanent service.
Building on these achievements, we extended our partnership in August 2026 with a further $3 million investment over the next three years to help more Australians build their financial wellbeing and housing security.
The expanded partnership reflects our belief that everyone deserves access to a safe, stable and affordable place to call home. It supports our commitment to improving financial and housing inclusion while continuing to encourage energy-conscious behaviours, reduce emissions and build more resilient communities.
Together, we will deliver additional home energy upgrades, energy and financial literacy programs, culturally appropriate support for First Nations peoples experiencing financial or housing stress, and new pathways to greater housing stability and independence.

As the founding partner of the Loorende-gat Business and Entrepreneur Program, we’re proud to support First Nations entrepreneurs through practical mentoring and training. Delivered in partnership with Carlton Football Club, and aligned with our reconciliation and financial inclusion commitments, the program focuses on leadership, finance, culture, innovation, and marketing.

National Affordable Housing
Since 2017, Great Southern Bank has partnered with National Affordable Housing (NAH) as a panel lender for the BuyAssist shared equity program. BuyAssist supports eligible low-to-moderate income earners by contributing up to 25% of the purchase price of a new home, and connecting buyers with suitable properties and lenders. The program helps more Australians purchase a home sooner – without the need for a deposit. Learn more about the program here.
In 2023, we announced a first-of-its-kind financing agreement to further improve access to affordable home ownership. Through this innovative partnership, NAH is able to leverage funding from Great Southern Bank as equity, supporting more low-to-middle income households in Victoria to buy a home through BuyAssist.
