Great Southern Bank helps first home buyers get clever with new podcast

Great Southern Bank has launched a new, 10-episode podcast series that aims to demystify the home buying process and help more first-time buyers into their own home.

The Clever Way Home podcast series has been created in partnership with SCA (Southern Cross Austereo) and is hosted by property valuer and social media influencer, Sophie Tieman.

Sophie, who has recently purchased her own first home, talks to three of the bank’s home loan experts - Priyanka Saldanha, Jason Moussa and Nicole Hayes - to help simplify, break down and explain every step of the buying process.

Launching on 15 February, the bi-weekly series takes a relaxed and straight-talking approach, recognizing that home ownership can be hard and sometimes overwhelming, particularly for millennials. The podcast seeks to combat this.

Topics include becoming loan-ready, tips for saving and accessing government schemes.

“Buying a house is a big undertaking and can be quite daunting at times, particularly for first home buyers not familiar with the ins and outs of the process,” said Great Southern Bank Chief Customer Officer Megan Keleher.

“We love coming up with ways to help Australians get clever with their finances and felt that a podcast series like this would be an engaging and relatable way to help Australians on their home ownership journey by sharing some of our teams’ experience and knowledge.

“Through the engaging content we’ve created, and the huge reach and younger audience demographic of SCA’s radio network and digital platforms, we believe The Clever Way Home provides a perfect platform to connect with our target audience.”

NSW mobile banker, Priyanka Saldanha, is one of the Great Southern Bank home loan experts who took part in the podcast.

“In my role, I see so many people who don’t know where to start, feel a bit overwhelmed or think home ownership is unachievable. Buying your first home can be confusing, but there’s plenty of information and help available,” she said.

“We set out to simplify every step of the process to empower our listeners by chatting through the questions, queries and concerns that all new home buyers face. It was a lot of fun and will, I’m sure, be a very useful tool for home buyers.”

Ms Saldanha said it was also a win to have Tieman involved.

“It’s fantastic to have her hosting. She has recently bought her own home, so understands how tricky the process can be. But as a property valuer, she was also able to share so many great insights.”

According to Roy Morgan, four in ten Australians between 18 and 54 years of age listen to podcasts at least once a week. The Clever Way Home podcast will run nationally with a potential reach of 7.2m Australians across SCA’s network of 99 stations, LiSTNR’s digital audience, SoundCloud and Sonos radio.
